Max Jago is a proudly Tasmanian creative-technologist and showmaker who lives for turning ideas into goosebump moments. As the founder of MaxFX and parent company Tas Crackers, Max builds community through spectacle—think the family-friendly SunSmart Light Show, the Halloween favourite Spooktacular Lights, and our annual club takeover MaxFX Takes Over Lonnies. If it sparks, sings, flashes, or flies in perfect time with the music, chances are Max has mapped it, wired it, and rehearsed it to a tee. A multi-business owner, Max also leads SunSmart Energy, a multi-skilled electrical and solar outfit delivering batteries, solar PV, networking, CCTV, data, and air-conditioning. That end-to-end trade background powers his events work: safe power distribution, bulletproof comms, clean installs, and time-coded integration across lights, lasers, flames, sparks, and close-proximity pyrotechnics. He’s a licensed pyrotechnician, licensed electrician, electrical contractor, and SAA solar accredited, combining compliance with creativity so ambitious ideas stay safe, legal, and on budget. Max’s superpower is synthesis—bridging technical disciplines to create shows that feel effortless: rooftop pyro synced to music, architectural lighting that breathes with a soundtrack, and special-effects sequences that land on the beat and look incredible on camera. He champions local talent and local stories, designing experiences that bring Tasmanians together and put our state’s ingenuity on show. Behind every headline moment is a tight-knit crew.
